Maurer, Alfred Henry [American, 1868-1932] |
|
Alfred Maurer (1868-1932) was born in New York City, the son of Currier and Ives lithographer Louis Maurer. Maurer worked in Paris from 1897 1914 when he was forced to return to the United States because of the political turmoil leading to World War I. He derived some of his early influence from W. M. Chase and his later influences from Whistler, Matisse, and the Fauves (1906-1914.) His later work left him regarded as both a cubist and an expressionist. |
